2025 Distinguished Alumni

The Morenci Education Foundation (MEF) recognized two outstanding graduates during its Annual Dinner and Auction held on Saturday, October 11, 2025. The event, catered by Wolf It Down, featured a buffet-style dinner, the presentation of the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Awards, and a spirited auction showcasing goods created and donated by local residents and Morenci alumni.

This year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients were John Craig (Class of 1988) and Kay (Dickerson) Holubik (Class of 2002) — both individuals who have made remarkable contributions to their professions and communities while embodying the Bulldog spirit.

John Craig – Class of 1988
John Craig has dedicated 27 years to Morenci Area Schools as an educator and leader. A graduate of Adrian College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Teaching from Marygrove College, John currently serves as Morenci’s Behavior Interventionist and PBIS Tier 2 Coordinator, supporting students through individualized behavior support plans over the past two years.

Before transitioning into his current role, John taught for 25 years at Morenci Elementary, including seven years in developmental kindergarten—where he established a unique “classroom in the woods”—twelve years in first grade, and six years in second grade. He also coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball at Morenci High School, leaving a lasting impact on students both in and out of the classroom.

John lives in rural Pittsford Township with his wife, Molly, and their three dogs: Bernedoodles Milo and Mira, and a beagle named Annie. His daughters, Kayley and Emma, both Morenci graduates and MEF scholarship recipients, have pursued careers in education and healthcare. When not working with students, John enjoys hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time at his Upper Peninsula cabin.

Kay (Dickerson) Holubik – Class of 2002
A 2002 Morenci graduate, Kay is the daughter of Larry and Rosemary Dickerson.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Central Michigan University in 2006 and has spent the past 13 years working for various government agencies focused on protecting natural resources. She currently serves as the District Conservationist for Mercer County, Ohio.

Kay has also dedicated significant time to community service, including nine years on the Morenci Education Foundation Board and 28 years with the Wishing Tree Project. She is actively involved with Scouting America, serving as Committee Chair for her local coed troop and as an environmental educator for the Black Swamp Area Council. Recently, she was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s national honor society.

Kay resides in Celina, Ohio, with her husband of 15 years, Jason, and their two children, Willow and Clay.
