Stephenson Park Project Update

Stephenson Park remains closed to the public as construction continues. Improvements include a new accessible playground, two pavilions, a full-sized basketball court, pickleball court, a 1/5 mile concrete walking path, updated lighting, benches, picnic tables, trash receptacles, a bike rack, and re-striping the parking area with accessible spaces. The project is funded through an $863,500 Spark Grant awarded by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Lighting installation is complete and operating from dusk to dawn. Concrete work for the basketball court and pickleball court has been completed, and the playground equipment is now in place. Most of the walking path has been poured, with a few sections left open for construction vehicle access. Remaining work includes finishing the path, surfacing the courts, finishing the installation of pavilions, placing site furnishings, and completing landscape work. Landscaping will include planting trees and grass, which will require time for the turf to establish before the park can reopen. A notification will be sent once the park is ready. In the meantime, please mark your calendars and plan to join us for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, June 26 at 5:00 p.m. to celebrate!
